In 2015, I covered the story of Corrie la Grange for Beeld newspaper.
It was a human interest story that touched and gripped our readers – one that sadly, did not end well. {The coverage was in Afrikaans, so I copy the story as covered in English by our sister publication News24}
“Corrie Le Grange, who in a matter of weeks ballooned to 450kg due to a medical condition, died at Charlotte Maxeke Hospital in Johannesburg in July..
Le Grange battled to get to hospital when his health took a turn for the worse, with his weight making it difficult to get him into a vehicle to be taken to hospital.
He was allegedly turned away by 10 private hospitals because of his size.
Le Grange was admitted to the hospital’s Intensive Care Unit, but did not pull through.”
